Both of my older daughters really like reading about the saints. Over the past few years I've found that it's a bit easier to find books on the saints for older children than it is to find ones that are geared to those in the kindergarten through 2nd grade set. Since I teach kindergarten religious ed, I often find myself getting a little frustrated that many of the picture books on the saints just aren't on a younger child's level. Too often I have found myself reading a short account of a saint's life only to look up from the book to see my class looking at me as if I had two heads.
I was delighted when I was made aware of My First Book of Saints
There is a colorful illustration for each of the saints featured in this book. In addition to the saints story, you'll also find a prayer to the saint that will inspire children to imitate his or her virtues. I particularly liked the little information box for each of the saints that gave a bit more background information such as the time period and region from which the saint hails as well as when his or her feast day is celebrated.
