I feel like I've just been skirting by this past week. I had blog posts that I wanted to do or had started writing that simply never made it to a point where I felt I could hit publish. I spent most of the past week with a headache caused by a tooth that was in pain. That one tooth had me feeling a bit miserable and more than a little worried. I'm a worrier by nature so I spent more time than I care to admit between last Thursday and Monday morning worrying that my tooth was in a very bad way.
Thankfully a trip to my dentist on Monday got to the cause of my problem. A filling I had done about eight years ago was a bit loose and had some decay under the filling. I'm a bit tweaked about that. I've had issues with that filling and the other one or two that I had done at that time since they were put in. They weren't done by the dentist I've been going to since '85 (The dentist and I spent a few minutes looking over my chart yesterday and reminiscing over my dental records.). The dentist I saw for these fillings was an attempt to find a local dentist so I wouldn't have to drive over an hour to see mine. I was so upset with the poor job done on these fillings that I wanted my dentist to drill them out and redo them, but he didn't want to do it because doing so would require him to drill out more of my tooth and he told me he wouldn't do it unless there was a problem. Now that I've had a problem I'm wondering if the other fillings done by the other dentist are ticking time bombs.
So at my appointment yesterday I think I must have been given a megadose of novocaine. Usually when I have a filling done my mouth is numbed up for maybe two hours at most. This time around it took over ten hours for it to wear off. The girls thought it was a riot that I couldn't control half of my face. I wasn't amused. It certainly made eating and drinking a bit of a challenge.
I'm feeling better now, but I still feel like I've been knocked for a loop. I guess the past couple of weeks have taken a bit out of me between this and the bug bite of doom. Here's hoping that next week will be uneventful outside of Katie celebrating her first birthday.

What a week!
I can't believe almost an entire week has past by since I last posted anything here. I've been so busy with so many things.
On Friday our pool was closed. I haven't been in it since the last week in August, but I felt sad to see the pool closed for the winter. I am however happy that I no longer have to worry about Bryan setting off the pool alarm that we have on our sliding glass door. I won't be listening to the ear piercing alarm again until May. I guess that's something to celebrate.
This past weekend was Madeline's soccer tournament. Her team wound up being the only recreational team in the tourney and the girls who are all U-9 with the exception of one player were put in the U-10 bracket against travel teams. We were a bit concerned that the girls would be totally outclassed but they actually did pretty well holding their own against the travel teams. Out of three games we only won one of them, but they managed to score goals in each game. Madeline scored a goal against a travel team from our soccer club, and she was goalie for a nice chunk of time during the game that our team won. During that game she made a lot of awesome saves. It amazes me that such a small kid can protect such a huge net.
On Monday the girls and I went to Stone Harbor for some dental fun. We were all scheduled to have our teeth cleaned. I was partly dreading the visit because Ellie hasn't reacted well to going to the dentist ever since she had her frenulum snipped at the pediatrician's office to eliminate her tongue tie issue. Much to my shock she happily hopped in the chair and allowed them to clean her teeth. Everyone in the office was amazed at the total change of heart on her part. The best part of the whole visit was finding out there are no cavities. Yay! I hope I can continue on my streak of not developing any new cavities.
I even took the girls to the beach on Monday to take pictures for our Christmas card. The outing didn't go well. The girls weren't too happy to be wearing sweaters and jeans on an 80 degree day. The picture outing went bad when Ellie sat on a sticker bush with big stickers that went though her jeans and stuck her. She was not a happy camper and for a little while we were under the impression that she had part of the sticker stuck in her tush. Poor kid is never going to sit on the beach again without looking first.
Tuesday was my crazy day of trying to get the house in order after having a busy extended weekend. I got the laundry under control and cleaned a lot of the house. I managed to do most of that before my parents came to visit for the afternoon. I don't know where that awesome burst of energy came from but it was great while it lasted.
Today my parents came to visit again and we went up to my Uncle's house to go through his belongings. Before you think I'm odd and rummaging through other people's things, I should clarify that this is the uncle who passed away in July. My dad is handling his estate and asked me if I could help him move some things out of his house. Going to his house was kind of like going on a scavenger hunt. I got to rummage through a lot of debris (and I'm being kind with my description) and find some tools and books that could be of use to us. I'm now the happy owner of a hatchet (which I don't intend to bury--I'm so punny today), a rake, a mini fridge, four hammers and a bunch of other stuff.
I'm continually amazed at how quickly time passes these days. It's so hard to believe that October is nearly at the midway point.

I feel like I've been MIA
I'm starting to think that I've been busier that I previously thought. I'm a little lazy and didn't go and look at any of my more recent posts, but I don't think I've shared my pumpkin patch pictures from two weeks ago. I know I didn't put any of my recent beach pictures up either. Did I even blog about my trip to the beach this past Saturday? I think I'm in the middle of a time warp. How is it that Madeline's birthday was a month ago? Time has been zipping past me ever since I got sick back in August. Here's hoping it slows down sometime soon.
Today was a rather busy day here. Bryan left at 5:30AM to catch a flight to Las Vegas. He's out there for a meeting. So my day consisted of waking up early (kind of) to say good bye to my husband, worrying for his safety while he was flying (worrying and praying that is), driving to Stone Harbor for a dentist visit for me and Madeline, checking on my parents' house "at the shore" (non-public bathroom break), lunch at Mc Donald's with my best friend and her four kids, and a visit to the Cape May County Zoo. When we finally got home I crashed on the couch for a nice long nap.
I'm happy to report that I successfully kept the girls busy today. I like to keep them busy while Bryan is away so they don't miss him too much. I particularly like to keep busy while he's flying. Otherwise I obsessively worry about him. Tomorrow my parents are going to visit so that will create a diversion for the kids for tomorrow. I just have to get past two mornings and one more bedtime routine and life will be back to normal for a few more weeks.
Unfortunately, I'll likely only see Bryan for 30 minutes on Wednesday night before I have to go to a class I'm required to take as a catechist in our diocese. The kicker is I'm not even sure if I'm actually registered for the class since the DRE appears to be a bit of a scatterbrain. I've emailed, given her handwritten notes and spoken to her in person and I still do not have a straight answer. I'll be calling tomorrow to try to follow up once more. I'm frustrated to say the least.
I'm looking forward to Thursday when life goes back to normal for a few more weeks. Bryan has two more business trips coming up next month. I honestly don't know how I used to cope when he used travel frequently. Before Ellie was born he used to travel almost monthly. In fact, I think he was away for about 45 days of my pregnancy with Ellie (spread out over many trips). We don't have the exact dates for his next two trips, but I'm really hoping he won't be traveling on our anniversary since it's the day before Thanksgiving.
This tired mom is going to head off to bed now. Maybe tomorrow I'll find the time to post my beach and pumpkin patch pictures. My new profile picture is from our beach trip this past Saturday. Bryan played photographer for a few minutes so I could get in a few pictures.

Teeth!
Apparently, today is a tooth day. This morning I had to trek down to my dentist's office in Stone Harbor for the second Monday in a row. Last week it was for Madeline and I to get our teeth cleaned and today was filling day for me. I had a 4 year cavity-free streak. I'm hoping to go at least another 4 years before the next one hits. I'm running out of cavity free teeth at this point, but it's probably all due to my candy addiction. I can't get enough of candy.
Madeline lost another tooth today. That brings her lost tooth count up to five. This child is not going to have any teeth in her mouth by the time her First Holy Communion rolls around in less than three weeks. She lost her two front teeth within the past 6 weeks and now she's missing another bottom tooth. She's all smiles today since she's been anticipating the imminent loss of this tooth for about two weeks. Looks like the tooth fairy will be visiting our house tonight. I hope she doesn't forget like the time before the last tooth. Madeline was devastated but Bryan managed to convince her that she didn't look hard enough in her tooth box for the money. I think the tooth fairy, realizing that she forgot to claim a tooth when she woke to the sound of a disappointed seven year old, waited for her to go downstairs to watch TV on Saturday morning and then sneaked into her room and traded money for tiny tooth and went back to bed.
