Embracing Motherhoodis an encouraging book for mothers to help them better understand the importance of their vocation as a mother. I really wasn't sure what to expect out of Donna-Marie Cooper O"Boyle's latest book, but I figured it would certainly be worth my time given other books I've read by her.
Embracing Motherhoodis broken into nine chapters. Each chapter begins with a quote from scripture or a saint. Each of these quotes on their own offer food for thought as well as being great lead ins to the subject matter of the chapter itself. Donna-Marie offer well thought out and practical advice throughout the book to encourage mothers to fully embrace their unique and incredibly important vocation. Each chapter concludes with a reflection section which poses questions which are great for both introspection and group discussion [if the book is being used in a group setting], and a prayer for reflection.
What I particularly like about the book is how she offers great insight on dealing with outside influences and media distractions that try to vie for your children's attention. As a mom who seeks to make sure her children are living in, but not of, the world, I felt this book provided lots of affirmation and encouragement. In fact, on a very remote level, it reminded me of another bookI read a while back without coming across as preachy.
Overall, I recommend this book to any mother who is trying to sort out how to raise Catholic children in this current cultural climate. The book is well written and could easily be read a chapter at a time in short periods of time.
I was provided with a copy of Embracing Motherhoodby the publisher, Servant Books, in exchange for my honest review. You can click hereto see a short preview of the book's contents on Amazon.
