Book Review: Prayer

Every time I sit down with one of Pope Benedict XVI's books I feel like I'm spending a series of afternoons with a good friend.  One of his latest books, Prayer, is no exception.  The book is comprised Pope Benedict XVI's series of talks on prayer that were part of his general audience catechesis.  He essentially takes us on an in depth tour of prayer.

While Pope Benedict is an amazing theologian, he makes his examination of prayer and the many forms it takes approachable to the average person who isn't steeped in theology.  As I read through this book there were many moments where he would be discussing a specific psalm or aspect of prayer with which I was already familiar but would have a take that came across as an Aha! moment.  I did find that this book is one that is best read at a slower pace so you can spend some time reflecting on each chapter.

Overall, I think this is a good book for someone who is trying to gain a deeper understanding of prayer and it's roots.  This book certainly has the potential to transform the way you view prayer and draw into a deeper relationship with God.
