Small Successes-April 12th

FaithButton

Celebrating the little things in life that add up.

1. I got to experience all three days of the Triduum.  Bryan stayed home with Katie on Holy Thursday and Good Friday while I took Madeline and Ellie to the church.  On Saturday Katie was so good at Mass.  She didn't cry for more than 30 seconds total the entire time we were there which was roughly four hours.

2. I took the girls to the dentist on Monday.  No cavities for them!  Of course, I can't say the same for myself.  One of my only remaining molars with no fillings now has a cavity.  So I'll be going back to the dentist in another week and a half to get another filling.  On the bright side, this is the first cavity I've had in a few years.

3. I failed at the 40 bags in 40 days for Lent.  I suppose if I counted all the paper recycles we had I could say that I got rid of 40 bags worth of junk, but that doesn't cut it for me.  Starting on Good Friday I got on a bit of a cleaning kick [spending over an hour searching through outgrown clothes for a white sweater in Ellie's size will trigger things like that].  Since then, I've been going through the house trying to pare down the copious amounts of unnecessary stuff we have.  I'm sick of stuff.  I wish I could take half of what we own and get rid of it.  I told Bryan I feel like we're a step away from being featured on that hoarders show, but he assures me that we're not.  So while Bryan has been gone on this latest business trip, I've been sorting through our stuff and tossing some of it and setting other things aside to be donated.

4.  I survived Bryan's latest business trip and I did not freak out when he sent me an IM yesterday telling me that he will likely be leaving for another trip in the next week and a half.  It feels like we've turned back the clock seven years to when Bryan was traveling several times a month only now it's harder because I have more children and two of them have lots of activities that I need to juggle.  He assures me that this next trip will only be for a night but I won't be surprised if it turns out to be two.  After all, this last trip was supposed to be for two nights but the meeting schedule was such that it would have been impossible for him to catch the last flight home.

  1. great successes ! how wonderful you were able to experience the whole Triduum -- so many distractions, and it sure helps when hubby helps out! fortunately, they fill cavities with the white filling instead of the silver!! :)

    1. Actually, I prefer the silver fillings. I find that the white ones are sensitive to cold and chocolate whereas the silver ones aren't. My dentist always tries to convince me to go for the white one because it looks nicer.

  2. I, too, failed the 40 Bags in 40 Days Challenge, although I did manage to get rid of 7 boxes & bags w/in two days last week. That brought my total to about 26 Bags in 40 Days!

  3. Karen, i did not know that about the white fillings. go info to have. I just got your comment re your husband's co-worker/friend, Steve. That is the same type that my nephew has. Perhaps my nephew and Steve could connect via email, or if Steve or his family have a blog or other social media re his illness, perhaps the two could connect that way. (if so, my email is EBLHarrison@yahoo.com, not necessary to write me back) I will definitely add Steve to my prayers. and thank you for keeping jack in your prayers. God bless!
