He's only 5 months, and I know lots of moms wait til at least 6 months to try, so perhaps just go with the baby lead weaning style where you only try when he shows interest? I have a friend who doesn't start any type of solids until one year, it's just straight nursing up til that point, and her kids turn out fine :) I know with Annamarie we were so desperate to try and get some extra sleep we tried cereal and all that at around 5.5 months but she refused. She did finally take mashed up bananas, but never got into cereal. I read that bananas taste somewhat similar to breastmilk, so many babies take to those easier than cereal.
